Homes For Sale on Monument Avenue
- Richmond's Fan District -
Monument Avenue (including a small stretch of West Franklin) is unquestionably the most recognizable avenue in Richmond as well as much of the South.
From the notable cobblestone streets that identify your arrival to the famed monuments of those that shaped history to the unrivalled collection of stately homes that line its way, Monument Avenue is extraordinary in every aspect.
Monument Avenue begins at the intersection with Lombardy (where it changes its name from West Franklin Street) and runs to the West End near the Henrico/Richmond border. Within the Fan District, however, are the homes and statues so identified with ‘Monument Avenue.’
With a diversity in its architecture upon which much has been written, the homes on Monument Avenue in the Fan regularly fetch some of the highest property values in Richmond. The grand nature of the homes is evident in the size, scale, materials and detail with which they were originally built. While many homes were converted during the middle 1900’s to either commercial or multi-family uses, most of those conversions have been reversed in the last 25 years.
Monument, like many of the streets in the Fan, is home to several events and festivals. The Easter Parade, held each spring, is a Richmond tradition. Likewise, the Monument Avenue 10k is also an event that marks many Richmonder’s calendars and is seen as an announcement that spring is officially here.
